Canada's economy blows past expectations with gain of 81,100 jobs

The Canadian economy gained a larger-than-expected 81,100 net jobs in August, largely driven by increases in part-time work, Statistics Canada data showed on Friday in its last major release of economic statistics before a national election is triggered.

The feud between the 'battle for third place' continues. It appears, for now at least, this may have backfired slightly on Elizabeth May. On Monday, she succesfully stole the spotlight from the NDP who had just unveiled their campaign slogan with news that 14 members of the N.B. NDP were jumping ship and joining the Greens. Now? 6 of the 14 indivuduals completely deny this ever happened. We'll see how this story continues to unfold.

This is one of the largest sample sizes (4,549 respondents) for a national poll that we've seen over the summer. The reality is, not much has changed. Conservative support is high in the prairies, Liberal support is high in Quebec and the Atlantic provinces, and in Ontario, the most important battleground, the Liberals have a slight lead over the Conservatives.

It has been a whirlwind three days for the NDP featuring a new slogan followed by a massive party exodus. With this latest news however, there are some who are starting to label the Greens as the party that is willing to accept NDP defectors worried about race. Elizabeth May will want to quickly put this issue to rest before it becomes anything bigger.
